Sales Management Intern

June - August 2019 • Buffalo, NY

What I liked

I liked the independence of being in the sales field and working with customers. PepsiCo really treats their employees and interns with so much respect and generosity. I met so many great people who helped me develop professionally and are now mentors of mine!

What I wish was different

I wish that I would have seen less of the field sales and more of the management side. I spent a lot of time helping the Buffalo team stay on top of merchandising orders, which was very physical and repetitive.

Advice

Be prepared to work hard! This internship is challenging but very rewarding. They push you outside your comfort zone!

Sales Management Intern

May - August 2019 • Atlanta, GA

What I liked

Gave me good insight as to what the day to day life of a Sales Manager is and what trials they go through on a daily basis. It kept me on my feet, every day was a new challenge and that made every day exciting. I loved my team I worked with as well as very good people who wanted me to succeed.

What I wish was different

Communication before the internship would have been nice. Their communication seemed kind of all over the place but once I got there, there was no issue.

Advice

Be ready to work! Hard job with long hours, if you are willing to work you can succeed.

Sales Management Intern

June - August 2019 • Denver, CO

What I liked

PepsiCo provided me with a huge amount of autonomy. Which meant that I was able to be creative, and try new things on my own. It was a very active job. I spent very little time sitting at a desk, I was given my own accounts and my own goals. Tough but challenging in the best way.

What I wish was different

You must have a car for this internship, while this was not a problem for me, it would have been nice to know in advance.

Advice

Go into it with an open mind, and be willing to try new things and get new experiences. Don't expect a cushy desk job.

Sales Management Intern

June - August 2019 • Cranston, RI

What I liked

I absolutely loved my experience at Frito Lay this past summer. I was a part of an amazing team who were very willing to help me succeed. I learned so much about all aspects of Frito Lay's business from production to the delivery of products to the shelves for our customers.

What I wish was different

I do not have anything that I would change.

Advice

I definitely was not as smart as the other follow intern at my location, but I showed more passion and desire to learn. I also showed up to everyday and worked my hardest my hardest. You do not have to be the smartest in the room, but you must work to the best of your abilities!

Sales Intern

June - August 2019 • Seattle, WA

What I liked

Being in a remote location, good pay, big company experience, professional environment.

What I wish was different

That job (not even the internship—the actual job) does very menial things. I wish I would’ve had deeper sales experiences. I wish I didn’t have to wake up at 3 or 5 AM so much. I wish I could have felt like I was doing something useful.

Advice

Don’t go in with high expectations; a job is a job and that’s how it was at Frito Lay

Sales District Lead

June - August 2019 • St. Louis, MO

What I liked

I liked the team effort and communication with my manager at all times. Pepsi really made sure we always had someone to shadow, and a project to work on. I really felt my needs were met out of the organization, and challenges were consistently made apparent.

What I wish was different

I wish I would've had more time with my fellow interns. It was a very small class and I was mostly by myself majority of the time. I know that team effort is important, so I would like to be a part of a team more.

Advice

I would say you really have to be your own boss. Take the initiative and reach out to higher-ups yourself. This will help your overall experience for the company as a whole.

Sales Management Intern

May - August 2019 • Rochester, NY

What I liked

My favorite part of the job was the people I met along the way. My managers and supervisors were nothing but supportive of me throughout my internship. They provided me with the critical feedback in needed to grow professionally and learn on the job. Also, being it was a sales job, I was able to connect with multiple store managers along the way working on my final project. For my project, I was assigned to a bunch of different stores and was tasked with attempting to increase revenue over a three week period. I loved this part of the job, and also believed presenting this at corporate headquarters in White Plains, NY was awesome.

What I wish was different

I wish that I had a longer project duration. Since it was only 3 weeks long, I did not have a big enough sample size of data to use in my projects. However I understand that I needed to see the front line of the business before they threw me out into the field.

Advice

Be a sponge. I did very well in my role because I listened and took notes whenever I worked with someone new. I got to experience what goes into every aspect of sales at Pepsi, and consumed as much as I could.

Marketing Intern

June - August 2019 • Chicago, IL

What I liked

The people at the PepsiCo were incredibly friendly and collaborative. Everyone roots for the interns success and they all make sure the interns have a fun and successful summer

What I wish was different

I would have loved to have a couple of "daily workflow" like items in addition to the summer long project.

Advice

The internship is much more about seeing if you're a cultural fit than it is about the actual progress. Everyone expects you to do well so a strong presentation is the baseline. What sets an intern apart is their ability to connect well with the people on their brand/at the Company at large.

Sales Management Intern

May - August 2019 • Naples, FL

What I liked

I really liked the structure of the internship. It was very hands on and self-managed. I only really saw and sat down with my boss once or twice a week. I was doing similar work as the front line employees which was really rewarding. But they also incorporated a lot of events and networking opportunities for the interns to spice up out summer.

What I wish was different

I really loved everything about it!

Advice

Take everything in! I learned an incredible amount of the summer. Not only did I learn about the beverage industry, but also about myself and how my capabilities mesh with the corporate setting.

Sales Management Intern

May - August 2019 • Orlando, FL

What I liked

I got to do a lot of independent work throughout the summer as I worked on an individual summer project. It gave me a lot of real world experience and what it would be like working for a giant corporation.

What I wish was different

I truly didn't take the internship as seriously as I should've. I got placed into a job role that I originally didn't apply for and it made me lack motivation in doing the job because I wasn't very passionate about it. At the end of the day, I should've put in a little more work and tried to gain more knowledge to have enjoyed my time more.

Advice

Take the time in your internship to gather as much knowledge and experience as possible, network your heart out with the big heads in the company you're interning for; even if it isn't a company you see yourself working in after the internship, it's good to leave with experience and good contacts.

Future Sales Leader Intern

June - August 2019 • Burlington, NJ

What I liked

I liked that I was able to move somewhere new and experience something different. I loved learning about all the different roles that are available at PepsiCo. I really loved all the people that I got the chance to meet and work with.

What I wish was different

I wish that I asked more questions in the beginning of the internship.

Advice

I would say to make sure that you step out of your comfort zone. It is an amazing place to work but you should be open to any position because it is very easy to move around.
