I loved the feeling that I was making a difference in the lives of people at what was probably their lowest point. I loved being able to see the impact I was making on the kids, distracting them from what they had been through and supporting them when I couldn’t.
What I wish was different
I wish I could have taken on greater responsibility and had gotten a paid position instead of my volunteer/internship.
Advice
If you really want to make a difference, sometimes it is best to start at the lowest level, interacting with those you want to serve at policy capacity or attorney capacity later.
