Pella Corporation

Plant Process Engineering Intern

May 2023 • Pella, IA

What I liked

The culture is very welcoming and it is a great learning environment. They also held intern events which were a very unique experience. We got to hear from all the executive officers and ask them any questions we wanted.

What I wish was different

I wish the intern events would have been more spread out. It felt like we had a bunch on one day and then zero the rest of the week.

Advice

Do not be afraid to ask for help. You learn the best by asking those around you.

Great atmosphere, great people, and amazing work!

What I wish was different

I think the biggest issue was location. There isn’t much to do in Pella.

Advice

Make the most out of working at Pella. Everyone is super friendly and would love to give you advice and guidance. Reach out to them and make new connections!

Voice/Data Network Intern

May 2019 • Pella, IA

What I liked

The Intern Program is a blast! It provides those new to the workforce a great experience and a great look into what is expected out of them. The interns do many events together, learning about their fellow colleagues, the company itself, and the city altogether. We took trips to offsite locations to explore what all Pella has to offer. An overall great internship for anyone.

What I wish was different

Some events within the internship program can be outside of your field of study, which can be tedious or not useful, but overall they are beneficial in order to learn about what all Pella has to offer.

Advice

Apply early for the internship program, don't wait until senior year of college. I got accepted my junior summer and spent the summer with a team, but now I get the chance to try out new things on new teams here while still during my internship!

Supply Chain Intern

What I liked

What I wish was different

I wish I caught on to my role sooner, that way I could of done a better job at my project and potentially do more.

Summer Help

May - August 2019 • Sioux Center, IA

What I liked

The people, especially the managerial staff, at Pella are great. Everyone is kind and welcoming. Denny Van Zanten is a wonderful person who tries to get to know everyone on staff. The environment is very clean and safe. It is clear that Pella takes good care of its employees.

What I wish was different

The pay could have been better. Coming on full time is incentivized by higher pay, but this leaves Summer Help team members woefully under-compensated. A returning Summer Help employee with a whole summer's worth more experience than a new full-time employee still gets paid significantly less.

Human Resource Intern

May - August 2019 • Sioux Center, IA

What I liked

The culture of Pella Corporation was the most impactful. Pella is a people-focused culture and it is made known. Pella also taught me a lot of what I know in regards to personal development. There are opportunities all around & we just have to take initiative. Pella is a great company and I could not have had a more positive experience.

What I wish was different

I wish there would have been more workshops/trips throughout the summer.

Advice

You are in charge of your experiences - take charge and exude everything you can out of each opportunity that arises. If you fail, that's okay! As long as you are failing forward.
