What I liked

My favorite part of working for Pebble Beach was the company culture. From my first day to my last, I knew the leaders of the company cared about me and wanted to help me succeed inside and outside of my job. I was impressed at how leaders of the PBC who were meeting hundreds of guests could meet you once and greet you by name weeks later. Leaders showed trust in employees by directing and delegating tasks and letting others use their strengths to help the organization succeed.

What I wish was different

My only negative experience during the internship occurred after the tent closed on the first day of the U.S. Open. The merchandise team would meet at the end of the night to discuss sales and make plans and adjustments for the next day. On this night in particular, some of the interns performed sloppily, and our whole team was chastised for not reaching our goals that day. I wish our manager would have pulled aside the interns that were causing the problem and talked with them separately rather than addressing the group as a whole in a negative light.

Advice

I would highly recommend working for the Pebble Beach Company to anyone. The great thing about PBC is it offers many different career options. Want to go into hospitality management? Great; Pebble Beach has multiple four-star hotels and a five-star spa on the resort property. Interested in outdoor recreation? Wonderful; PBC has an outdoor equestrian center as well as a dock for boating in Stillwater Cove. I can’t speak highly enough of the organization and what it was like working with Pebble Beach.
