Systems Intern

May - August 2021 • Oklahoma City, OK

What I liked

I really enjoyed my internship with Paycom. Everyone in the systems branch of IT is unbelievably helpful and willing to go out of their way to help you succeed. The pay is great, and the projects assigned to you are used to accomplish actual goals within the company. The company culture is great, and they host many fun events throughout the internship.

What I wish was different

Nothing.

Advice

Take the time to learn from the projects assigned to you. I have learned an unbelievable amount in my short time here, and I feel better-prepared for a career in IT because of it. Also, get familiar with Powershell and PowerCLI before you start the internship, and you'll be ready to hit the ground running.

Human Capital Management and Leadership Intern

May - August 2019 • Oklahoma City, OK

What I liked

It was the first real corporate experience I had ever had, and it was very hands-on. There were a lot of leadership and development opportunities. Supervisors really wanted to make sure you understood what you were doing and always reached out if you needed help.

What I wish was different

They were very strict about time so it was hard to make any doctor appointments. I understood because the nature of their business is very time-sensitive, but it was almost impossible to try to schedule any kind of appointment.

Advice

Go in with an open mind, and be ready to work. This is the kind of internship where you will get out what you put in.

Junior Executive Sales Intern

June - August 2019 • Philadelphia, PA

What I liked

This internship fully immersed participants in every aspect of the sales cycle at Paycom. I was completing the same tasks as full time reps and my contributions mattered to the success of the office.

What I wish was different

I would have liked a bit more formal training at the start of the program. Paycom's mentality was the best way to learn is to do and they had us jump right into cold calling.

Advice

If you work hard and enjoy a culture of hyper-competition this internship is a great springboard into a lucrative sales career with Paycom. However, do not feel like you need to love what you are doing, I found out pretty early on that I did not like sales which is just as important as learning what you do like.

The overall business acumen you develop. Useful in any sales career. Prospecting, cold-calling and going on meetings. Great environment and team.

What I wish was different

Sales Intern

June - August 2019 • Seattle, WA

What I liked

I loved the amount of responsibility I was given. I also received a personal mentor which was awesome to get one on one advice. There was no product training so we were forced to rely solely on pure sale skills.

What I wish was different

I wish I didn’t have to wear a suit everyday! Also the start time was at 7:30 every day which was somewhat early for what I was expecting.

Advice

I would say to definitely get out there and start networking as soon as possible. The earlier you can get your name within their system, the better. It’s also great putting yourself in a position where if you perform well you can earn yourself a full-time position. Even if it’s not the exact job you’re looking for, there’s definitely something to be said for the security of having something lined up post-graduation. Great experience all in all!

Software Development Intern

May - August 2019 • Oklahoma City, OK

What I liked

I loved the culture of Paycom and everything that they put into their Internship program as it really helped me learn a lot about what is expected of my major in the real world. I worked on real projects that had real applications in the company. They treated us just like full-time employees leading to a more accurate portrayal of how things will be once I graduate.

What I wish was different

I wish I could have stayed longer. They compensated us well for your work, made great friends, and learned new and interesting things everyday.

Advice

I would say that getting an internship in the CSE field is not required but very heavily suggested as you will not get everything you need to know for when you graduate just from school. Push yourself to teach yourself new things in your field to stay ahead of the pact.

May 2019 • Oklahoma City, OK

What I liked

I can't say enough good things about this company and this department. There are so many intelligent people around me, and they are all so willing to help and answer my questions. The Application Security team leads and supervisor are exceptional. They love to let people run with good ideas. They invest in the growth of each employee and encourage constant learning. You won't find a better place to grow as a security professional.

What I wish was different

I wish I would have done the Information Security Internship. Our interns had so much fun this summer!

Advice

Be ready to learn and don't be afraid to ask lots of questions.

Advice

Internships and new jobs can be nerve-racking. Paycom's onboarding, orientation and training processes are incredible and very inclusive. Walk in the first day with confidence and be ready to learn.
