What I wish was different
Despite all the good things Paychex has to offer for a tech career, there are some serious shortcomings -
The company and management's mindset is extremely cheap, not frugal.
You will experience this in almost everything -
a. The pay rate is lowest in Rochester. (18/hr for undergrad and 21/hr for grads, many other companies offer 24 - 28/hr)
b. Roughly 50% of the full time employees and all interns are hired as contractor (who do not get any benefits eg - 401k company sponsored events etc) you can feel a clear difference in the treatment. Upon asking a manager why so, he answered hiring more direct employees are liability for the company (RED FLAG)
c. Almost, no (or maybe 1/yr) team outings, events, offsite , so if you are young and looking for fun loving workplace, this is a serious no go.
d. Absolutely, no perks. There is only one coffee flavor of coffee and a cheap creamer that you have to live by.
Lastly, do not expect you will be able to work / contribute to any open source projects while working here. You will be expected to work only for the company work even in supplemental time.
