I enjoyed the work PAWS was doing and being a part of such an impactful organization. I learned how non-profit work and was able to improve my leadership experience and self-confidence working with the public.
What I wish was different
I wish I had more time to explore other opportunities that PAWS had to offer.
Advice
One piece of advice I would share about my internship experience would be to put yourself out there and get outside of your comfort zone. I moved to Chicago for this summer internship and I met so many amazing people and had the best experience. Not only did I learn and develop new skills, but also had my fair share of exploring the great city of Chicago!

Welcome center/Adoption intern
June - August 2020 • Chicago, IL
What I liked
I was able to gain experience about dealing with customers, especially people under stress.
I was challenged to work in a fast-paced environment and learned about the animal care industry. I was fortunate to be surrounded by intelligent staff members and interns who shared the same passions for animals.
What I wish was different
I wish this was a paid internship.
Advice
Be prepared to work in a fast-paced environment. The tasks may seem overwhelming at first, but you will get the grip of things and enjoy what you do.
