Undergraduate Research Assistant
June - August 2018 • Rockmart, GA
What I liked
I enjoyed a lot of the freedom they gave me. It made it feel like a real job where my creativity and interest in science could flourish.
What I wish was different
Working at Meggitt, you have to be tolerant of Georgia summer weather, which is quite brutal. The shear heat from no AC in certain areas can be tough.
Advice
If you're interested in polymers and would like to learn about there application in industry, this is the internship for you.

Research Assistant
June - August 2018 • Rockmart, GA
What I liked
I learned a lot about the research process at real manufacturing companies. This helped me to understand the chemistry and solidify my capability as a worker.
What I wish was different
I wish it had been a little more organized. I could tell the staff was blindsided by my arrival (because they told me.)
Advice
If you can not handle the smell of organic solvents, then do not apply for this internship. You have to deal a lot of the times with no A/C and the intense smell of toluene, methyl ethyl ketone, etc. It can be quite cumbersome.

Systems Engineering Intern
June 2016 - August 2017 • Simi Valley, CA
What I liked
It gave me the opportunity to experience real world engineering for the first time. I also worked with a team of engineers who were very helpful and willing to mentor me. As the summer went on, I was able to gain more responsibility and felt an increased sense of relevance to the project.
What I wish was different
I wish there had been more opportunity to move around to work on different projects and with different groups. I tended to stick with the same work for most of the summer, and mostly worked with the same 2-3 individuals.
Advice
Try to meet and get to know as many people as possible, including people outside of your team. You'll find people with lots of interesting experiences and perspectives that you can learn from.
