I enjoyed the community that was present in the congregation and their welcoming and hospitable presence. I also enjoyed the concept of a more flexible internship. There were not a lot of guidelines, so in theory, the internship could be customized to each individual's needs. The internship was less focused on what each intern could bring to the church and more on making sure that we were able to use the internship to learn and grow.
What I wish was different
I am a person who requires more structure. There were very few expectations that were communicated and most of them were not put on paper. Because of this, even though my supervisors had dreams for the internship experience, these were not communicated and therefore not met. There should have been some sort of clear contract with this of exactly what is needed. It was the first-year experience, so I totally get it.
Advice
Fight for expectations and a contract. You need to know what is expected of you.
