Line cook
April - August 2019 • Tempe, AZ
What I liked
Learning new cooking techniques and working in teams. The employee environment was really welcoming.
What I wish was different
Getting more opportunity to work in other stations.
Advice
The job is exhausting and really hard on your body, and you can be in the kitchen for up to 12 hours a shift. I have a passion for culinary so I didn’t mind, though I would not recommend this job to anyone if culinary isn’t your forte.

Host
May - August 2021 • Nashville, TN
What I liked
The pay and hours were nice, and management was very kind and flexible with emergencies and hours for their employees. When we were short on workers, they would roll up their sleeves and personally assist with whatever we needed. They also began training hosts/hostesses in other positions where they could begin earning tips as soon as possible.
What I wish was different
I wish that the waitlist system was applied differently, as busy days could quickly become a nightmare of angry customers and frustration from over-worked servers. Due to pandemic-related issues, a shortage of workers meant that you would have to constantly do things outside of your job description, sometimes resulting in you having to clean the entire dining room by yourself when a busboy decides to leave in the middle of their shift (they pay you for this however, don't get the wrong idea)
Advice
Do not go into the job expecting a glamourous experience. Its the food service industry, there's going to be LOTS of annoying things and people in the way. However, they pay you very well for your troubles ($12/hr starting for all roles) and are incredibly flexible with various issues. Plus, as a bonus, you get to take home any rejected/not-picked up food orders.
