What I liked

I took one online class with OIT and did a good amount of traveling so the flexible schedule was great for summer. Student workers can only work so much so that also helped ensure that I spent my summer relaxing and not constantly working. I enjoyed the job, learned a lot about the school, and build relationships around campus.

What I wish was different

I do not feel like I would change anything with this job. I really enjoy the people and I learn a lot working in IT since it is very different from my major but still technology related.

Advice

Not all of the school's student worker positions have summer hours so do not rely on a current position for a summer job. Double check to see if you can work over the summer and if not start looking for a new summer job before Spring term ends.

I enjoyed helping the irrigation districts better utilize their water resources by gathering field data and developing recommendations on efficiency improvements.

What I wish was different

I would have liked to have had a larger part in the post data gathering phase with the districts.

What I liked

I can work online at any time convenient to me for any amount of hours up to 30 hours a week. I am working on making documents accessible which is an important task. There is always work to do, and it is not too difficult.

What I wish was different

I wish it didn't have to be all on a computer, but that is the nature of the work.

Advice

If you need something to fill in holes in your schedule, try this out. It can be a great additional job.

Working for the Oregon Tech Development Team is a great way to network and meet alumni of Oregon Tech. They work with your school schedule and the staff members are really nice.
