Government Relations Intern
June - August 2019 • Orange, CA
What I liked
I learned that I love the Government Relations Field and the transportation industry. I had great supportive Co-Workers who have had so much experience in policy and politics.
What I wish was different
I think personally our department had too many interns at once, so it would have been nice if there were less interns so that each of us would have had more responsibility.
Advice
Look for internships and jobs outside of your comfort zone! I did not have any previous interest in transportation, but this internship changed my mind. Now, I am writing my senior capstone on innovative transportation and that wouldn't have happened unless I had this internship experience.

Mechanical Engineering Intern
June - August 2019 • Santa Ana, CA
What I liked
Orange County Transportation Authority saw the potential in each and every employee, including the summer interns like myself. They held several events for the entire agency and offered plenty of training opportunities. I would absolutely recommend working here to anyone.
What I wish was different
I wish I could've continued to work at OCTA. The only reason I left was because I attend college in another state.
Advice
I realized I did not need to stress about the on-boarding process. OCTA worked hard to make the interns feel welcome and less stressed. They also trained us and answered any questions with openness.

Marekting Intern

What I liked
I had the great opportunity to be a Marketing Intern for the Orange County Transportation Authority. After 6 months of being an intern, I was offered a full-time Marketing Specialist, Associate job.
As a Marketing Inter I created marketing plans for social medias and rideshare programs, participated in public outreach events to promote OCTA’s services and programs, generated strategic partnerships with local business owners to become program partners with OCTA, and contributed in content marketing and revamping of OCTA’s new blog - “On The Move”
I began my full-time job October 1st with the primary goals and job duties to develop strategy and implement logistics for various marketing outreach events to increase awareness of OCTA programs and services. Also, implement marketing campaigns targeting a range of diverse audiences within Orange County, CA.

Advice
Being that this is my last semester of college, my advice to college students doing internships is to have one particular game plan and mindset: "Always raise the bar high. Roll the sleeves up higher. Get after it."
