The Chicago office is small but intimate. It is a very collaborative environment, with social events here and there. Even though I was a summer intern I was welcomed to all events. Everyone was nice and eager to learn about what I have been and will be doing.
The internship, despite me not being a civil engineer, was useful to me. There were resources (including fellow employees) available for me to learn about hydraulics, programming APIs, and how data is managed in the company.
What I wish was different
Nothing!
Advice
This is not specific to the company: do not expect others to reach out to you (as an intern or entering full-time employee) to see if you need anything. You need to take the initiative to ask questions and socialize with other employees (if you want to). I benefitted from asking questions at Optimatics and reaching out to employees even outside the Chicago office instead of trying to spend hours resolving issues myself.
