Graphic Design Intern

September 2022 • Tyrone, GA

What I liked

I loved how I got to strengthen my ability with Illustrator and how I got to strengthen my communication! I also loved talking about Christ with my team!

What I wish was different

I wished that the Christmas Campaign that I had to work on was mostly about Jesus rather than the Christmas lights or snowflakes.

Advice

If you ever have any questions, ALWAYS ASK! No question is a stupid question!

Communications Intern

January - May 2021 • Tyrone, GA

What I liked

I very much liked interacting with the OM staff members who come from so many countries and industries. I gained extensive career advice and benefit from interacting with them as personal and often as I was able to. I was provided so many amazing additional opportunities, I was not even able to take advantage of all of them.

What I wish was different

I wish I had not been interning in two places at once so I could have taken more full advantage of the opportunities within Operation Mobilization. Additionally, as an intern, I would have liked more integration with the surrounding communities and opportunities to apply those global outreach strategies locally as well.

Advice

Commit to being stretched in the discomfort because the benefits later will be so great.

Communication

May - August 2021 • Tyrone, GA

What I liked

I love OM because of their mission to reach the 3 billion unreached people in the world. I actually love the work environment because it is relational and slow paced. My supervisors worked closely with me as well as having the support from my fellow interns.

What I wish was different

Nothing

Advice

One piece of advice from my internship experience would be to ask lots of questions and don’t be afraid to explore what you like to do.

What I liked

The Spiritual development program, Access to the Leadership, Mentorship Program, and Meaningful Work that integrated within the company.

What I wish was different

Advice

My time at OM USA probably would remain the most impactful summer in my life. I learned so much through the program and the people lead at OM USA are the best to work both on Office and outside the office.

Project Engineer & Global Community Developer

July - August 2019 • Kabwe, Central Province

What I liked

I loved challenging myself to fully rely on God's strength, doing good work in a land that was completely foreign and unfamiliar to me. It was an awesome opportunity to utilize not only skills acquired from my studies, but to apply life skills as well. To be thrown into total discomfort and completely rely on God is a great way to learn that He can use you even in the smallest of moments, and your talents matter!

What I wish was different

I wish I had planned to stay longer. The more you stay in research or in an internship, the more opportunity to learn a skill and grow.

Advice

Be malleable. The most crucial step before leaping into any decisions as a believer is to soften your heart. Try to listen to what God is calling you to do, and take leaps to achieve that position. If He wants you to fly halfway around the world, He will make your path, so take a jump. If you are called to take on a summer working in Siloam, don't let yourself believe your time is wasted. Any experience is a growing experience as long as your heart is prepared to be shaped. Nothing is out of Gods control to get you where you're going, so be smart and leap in faith. Use the tools and resources at your disposal. Pray and practice obedience.

Media intern

June - August 2019 • Kabwe, Central Province

What I liked

I loved the cross cultural experience and the people living at the base.

What I wish was different

I wish OM Zambia has a set program where interns have a cream schedule of things to accomplish during our time there.

Advice

For journalism students I would recommend to apply for their HQ instead of going international to ensure that you will grow and learn.

Project Intern

June - July 2019 • Vientiane, Laos

What I liked

I loved the people that I worked with in Vientiane, they were a group of motivated, practical and kind people that really enjoyed living and working with.

What I wish was different

Several things about the application process were obscured, I was told that my application was shown to multiple teams and that they would choose their interns but in reality, the teams weren't told until after the decision was made. My application was lost multiple times Throughout my interactions with the internship head before I was hired, I asked several questions which were never answered. When I mentioned this lack of transparency, I was told that my questions weren't answered because I didn't respond to e-mails with appropriate speed. Upon request I shared my flight information, my flights were almost canceled without my knowledge or consent. I was pleasantly surprised to find that the organization was willing to take my feedback and improve but most of my concerns were met with hostility and suggestions that I should be grateful that I had even considered because of my health history.

Data Analyst Intern

May - July 2019 • Tyrone, GA

What I liked

I worked with The Freedom Challenge (FC) and other teams during my time here. I worked on projects given that enhanced my knowledge on data analysis. I also learned how to build and categorize the FC's website to appeal to their supporters. During my time there, I enjoyed working with the team and others in the OM community. Specifically, I appreciated that my supervisor gave me projects that I could manage with minor supervision, while being there if I needed assistance. My interest along with my skills greatly impacted FC and OM as a whole going forward. Aside from the work aspects at OM, I liked the diversity of people and the various stories they shared about their experiences at OM. For instance, Global Prayer brought so many people from around the world, merging their cultures and praying for the reached and unreached peoples in the world. Not to mention, OM provided housing and a stipend to help during my time there.

What I wish was different

I knew what projects needed to be done, but I was doing mini projects here and there until I acquired all of the information for my main project. By the time I actually started the project, it was a lot of information that needed to be done accurately and quickly.

Advice

Go into this experience with an open mind and heart to learn and grow personally and spiritually. OM is really fun and flexible with its team members, but its a place to share your abilities and expertise to impact the organization in the end. Most importantly, be willing to share your skills and learn from others while you're there. Remember, be all who God created you to be and use your purpose to help others.

IT Network Analyst Intern

May - July 2019 • Tyrone, GA

What I liked

My supervisor gave me projects they felt fitted my skill set and career path I wanted to pave, and it was great for me to get involved in projects that involved rebranding and web development. In doing this, it was to make sure the company could have a professional and lively look to it. In every instance, I was treated as a employee more than an intern because the work I did impacted the team.

What I wish was different

Even though I was expose to bits of the IT field, I wish I was more involved in projects involving security awareness. Other than that, just having more time there to spend there!

Advice

Know that each company will hold you to certain standards. Go with an open mind, be equipped, ask questions, keep connections, understand how other departments intertwine with yours, and of course: explore the environment you are in!

Marketing Intern

May - July 2019 • Tyrone, GA

What I liked

I got to work with the full marketing team and executives to work on real projects that will have a huge impact on OM going forward. My supervisor met with me to actually get to know me and pair my interests, skill, and personality with projects that I would actually enjoy doing. I met with the VP of Marketing frequently discuss what I had done and when to present it to the whole group and he always asked how I was personally, if I too much/little work, if there was anything they could change to make the work better, if I enjoyed the work I was doing. Along with a generous stipend (which includes housing), I loved being here and pairing my love business with my love for Jesus and spreading the Gospel around the world.

What I wish was different

My first few days were a bit slow because of all my supervisors being busy and not able to meet until a few days in the future. After that though, it was much better.

Advice

Be prepared to use all your skills and knowledge in this internship, because this isn't an unimportant administrative job; it's a job with projects that will have an impact much longer than you will be there.

General Coordinator

July - August 2018 • Offenburg, Baden-Württemberg

What I liked

Got to meet thousands of new people from a variety of countries with different cultures and languages. It was very interactive and social. Loved getting to get to know the youth and guiding, leading, serving, teaching them. Volunteering and helping the elderly, poor, refugees, and the community.

What I wish was different

Wished there was more time and it was longer!

Advice

When experiencing something new or even something that you have already done before, always dive in with an open heart and an open mind. There are so many different and new perspectives, worldviews, ideas, etc. that we can learn from and about. I know its not easy to get out of our comfort zone, but by doing so, I believe we can stretch and improve/develop ourselves.
