Restaurant Host/Hostess
April 2018 • Bridgewater Township, NJ
What I liked
I like the feeling of working with your co-workers as a team. When we're busy it becomes challenging to figure out the most efficient seating arrangements but the problem-solving aspect is what keeps the job fun. I also really like how a lot of my co-workers are close to my age because it allowed me to meet so many new friends.
What I wish was different
More flexibility with scheduling.

You are rated by all guests who pay with card through a survey. They display these scores to all of your coworkers, and highlight people who had a bad shift, calling you out and embarassing you in front of everyone. Evaluating scores should definitely be done one on one in private.
Advice
There are some guests who you just can't please, or who simply do not tip. Don't take those people's actions personally.

Advice
Working as a waitress is hard. The pay is low and the tips aren’t always great. That being said, you meet some great people and learn some really valuable skills. I’d recommend it, not as a career, but as a stepping stone on the way to something better.
