Office of Congressman Doug Collins

Political Science Intern

August 2020 • Gainesville, GA

What I liked

I loved being part of a busy Congressman's office. I enjoyed talking to and connecting with constituents and being able to help them with their problems provided their problems fall under our jurisdiction.

What I wish was different

I wish it would have been paid.

Advice

Always be professional. Some people will be a pleasure to talk with, but others will try your patience. Do not let them win by losing your patience.

Congressional Intern

May - July 2019 • Gainesville, GA

What I liked

Learned skills I couldn't in the classroom like constituent representation. Even though I was an Intern I feel like I made a real difference in my community in the short time I was there by helping constituents and municipalities alike.

What I wish was different

Somedays the high-paced environment could be taxing but other days it kept the workspace lively and productive. There really wasn't any bad days at the office just difficult ones but I still enjoyed the challenge.

Advice

Come prepared and know basic civics. Offer to take on extra projects, the tougher your work load the more you learn, the more responsibility you have, and the more they will trust you.
