Loved the office staff and the constituents I was able to interact with. My supervisor was extremely flexible with my schedule because I worked from 9-6, however days I had a class they allowed me to leave early and have Fridays off for my class as well.
What I wish was different
I wish I had attended more hearings and complete write-ups because that was a great way to gain experience.
Advice
No matter what office you are in or what side of the aisle you are, there will people who call and say very harsh things and it is your duty to listen and not take anything they say personally because you are their point of contact for their politicians. Just have to learn to brush off the negatively and don't let it affect you.

Congressional Intern
May - July 2018 • Washington, DC
What I liked
Working on Capitol Hill is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. I learned so much about how our governmental system really works and who is involved in making democracy happen.
What I wish was different
I wish I had taken even more time to find a Christian community of mentors while I was in DC. I lived at home during the internship and wish I could have networked more with other Evangelicals in the public policy arena.
Advice
If a student is interested in working in politics, there is no better internship to have. There is no better way to prepare you for working on the Hill or in any sector of political work than doing behind-the-scenes work for a Representative or Senator.
