NYSERDA - New York State Energy Research and Development Authority

Business Analyst Intern

June 2019 • Albany, NY

What I liked

This internship exposed me to a lot of different software and systems that I could use in my future jobs as well as for my growth as a student.

What I wish was different

I wish the location were different because I stayed in Albany year round and would've loved exposure to elsewhere.

Advice

Don't overwhelm yourself, but do try to network and really learn as much as you can from the internship, whether it's a skill or just getting to know others.

Single Family Residential Team Intern

June - August 2019 • Albany, NY

What I liked

Great organization to work for if interested in energy, but with that comes with a lot of opportunities for data and business interests. NYSERDA has a really big reach in New York State and they do a lot more than it seems on the surface. As an intern, there are weekly meetings with the 40+ interns where everyone shares what they had been working on. The program also coordinates meetings with members of the NYSERDA team and the executive team and speakers share career advice.

Advice

Take advantage of the open-door policy that many of the team members have here, there are a lot of great connections to be made and everyone is eager to talk to the interns.

Project Management Intern

May 2019 • Albany, NY

What I liked

There were plenty of opportunities to get involved in and make a difference within the clean energy sector of New York State.

What I wish was different

Interns are placed directly under a supervisor in a specific team, so if you turn-out to not like the project you are assigned to there is little chances for task adjustment.

Advice

Make the most out of and try to attend all the summer group events! There are plenty of unique opportunities to meet high level executives, network with industry and peers, and educate yourself about different careers in clean energy.
