I have nothing but amazing things to say about my experience at Northwestern Mutual. During my tenure, I was able to network with countless individuals who invited me into the NM Family while growing in ways I could have never imagined. The University Relations team has definitely made a mark on the start of my internship experience.

Actuarial Intern

What I liked
Although the internship was virtual due to COVID-19, it was still a great experience. The Actuarial Intern coordinators were committed to keeping the experience as meaningful, engaging, and fun as possible despite the virtual environment. I had the opportunity to network with nearly every actuary at the company in addition to all of the members of the senior leadership team. Additionally, the work I did was meaningful and challenging.
What I wish was different
It would have been great to be in-person, but I admire Northwestern Mutual for its commitment to the health and safety of its employees. Although I had a great virtual experience, there are definitely things I missed out on (free lunch, working in the tower, experiencing Milwaukee, etc.) due to the virtual setting.
Advice
Don't be afraid to network early on in the internship. Northwestern Mutual has a great culture, and every person I reached out to (from entry-level hires to VPs) was willing to chat with me 1-on-1 for 30 minutes or more. Make sure to do your research and come prepared with questions to ask.
