The Case Managers are great to get you started in the client's home and check in often to make sure things are going okay. They really make sure you feel comfortable in a home and if you don't, they make it easy to find a different home.

Social work intern

What I liked
I enjoyed learning how their program ran. It was nice to take the lead on consumer programming to be able to use learned skills in the real world. I had enough freedom but also was given feedback and education to further my understanding.
What I wish was different
I only did part time for a few months. It would have been nice to be there full time to be more involved with the day to day of consumer and direct support profession problems. However, the part time internship was my request so I could keep my paid job.
Advice
I would do this internship full time. I would also take over programming and other things as a way to learn and grow and get the most out of it. They were very open to hearing other ideas and trying new things.

What I liked
I like my job because it is very flexible and independent. I planned most of my shifts with my clients, dependent on their interests, and got to be flexible with them.
What I wish was different
I wish there would be a most consistent guarantee of hours. My shifts could get cancelled whenever based on parents plans.
