MISSION STATEMENT
The New Americans Museum fosters greater appreciation and understanding of the region’s diversity, the value of its immigrant roots, and the richness of its many cultures as a way to achieve harmony, acceptance and inclusion amongst all communities.

VISION
The museum advances understanding and appreciation for what it means to be a post- World War II “New American” (and all following generations) through educational activities, art exhibits, and by recording and sharing the many inspiring and courageous stories behind the hardships, triumphs, and contributions of immigrants who arrive in their new homeland.

VALUES
The New Americans Museum values all forms of expressions—arts, crafts, music, dance, literature, story-telling, foods, folk traditions and many more—in order to celebrate and honor the traditions of all world cultures via the excellence and innovation of its many programs and practices.

HISTORY
Received non‐profit status in 2002. Opened June 2008 at San Diego’s NTC at Liberty Station, a former Naval Training Center, now an exciting, historic redevelopment district. In 2010, temporarily suspended programming during the recession and reorganized.

Resumed programming in 2014 in preparation for the Reawakening in January 2015. Now with over 4,000 square feet encompassing two galleries [2,000sq ft.], a classroom/research center, a museum store [in summer ‘16] and a recording studio to capture the region’s culturally diverse immigrant stories.

narratives of resilience: reimagining homeland
January 16, 2015 – March 21, 2015

DEFINING PROGRAMMING
Focus is immigrant histories ‐‐post WWII. Hosts four curated quarterly exhibitions. Key educational programming with docent and school tours. Other programs include artist talks, forums, the student ‘immigrant journeys’ essay contest, the Children’s Citizenship Ceremony and an ‘Emerging Arts Leaders’ internship program. Oral and visual histories initiative includes a digital histories archiving project,
