Nekter Juice Bar

Restaurant Shift Leader

June - August 2019 • Pasadena, CA

What I liked

What I loved most about working at Nekter Juice Bar was how close I got to all of my collegues. No matter what position we had, or how long you worked there for, you could always learn from each other. We communicated well with each other and had an open understanding about tasks we stuggled with that we wanted to improve on and tasks we felt skillful in. No matter the age difference, I felt like I was friends with everyone apart of the Nekter community because there was clear focus on builing relationships with collegues, customers, and our product.

What I wish was different

Often, I wish my concerns would have been heard by our store managers. As a shit lead, it's justas much as my responsibility to understand my co-workers perspectives as much as it's my responsibility to manage shits and meet business demands. One big complaint was the unorganized order system. When I first began working there, I was trained quickly on the register which cause major errors future orders. When that was eventually worked through, the management still felt like an issue. Althoough I was in a higherposition than the Juicers, I was paid exactly the same as them through new management as was not promised the higher pay I deserved unless I "upsell" items. My manager asked me to come in on my days off very often and most of the time I felt like I didn't have a choice. I was one of two shifts leads and had to fill in shifts constantly to oversee Juicers.

Advice

One piece of advice I would share is never give more to your job than you signed up for. There were some weeks were I was asked to work on my days off and never felt like it was an option to say no. Your co-works that work both above and under you need to understand that you are a human being who works hard and needs a day off or two. It is obligatory.

What I liked

I liked getting to know more people and learning how to work in stressful environments. I now know better how it feels to work in such an environment.

What I wish was different

nothing I loved every shift

Advice

to not get too stressed out and just do the work instead of thinking about it. it also gave me a better insight to how people are treated and how to deal with difficult customers and their negative attitudes, so I strive to not be like that towards people that are helping me.

What I liked

I loved this job so much! it helped me understand the ins and outs of customer service. I also learned how to work at various times of the day, and how to deal with complicated/overwhelming situations. Additionally, I loved being surrounded by a healthy and positive environment.

What I wish was different

The only issue we had was with shipments coming in on time which made some mornings very stressful. Other than that I really have no complaints.

Advice

Don't be afraid to ask questions if you're unsure of what to do, and move quickly!
