National Sawdust

Development Intern

June - August 2020 • New York City, NY

What I liked

Working as a Development Intern this summer was a great experience! I was developed a broad understanding of what it means to work in arts administration, while gaining practical skills in grant writing and archival research. I also had three supervisors, all of whom were super friendly and always willing to answer questions!

What I wish was different

My supervisors did a great job of making this internship as meaningful as possible while working remotely, however, I wish they had kept the interns in the loop about upcoming digital concerts. A large part of the internship that I was looking forward to when it was in person was attending shows, and when everything was online it was hear about when events were going on. I think that this would have allowed me to get a better understanding of the impact of my work this summer.

Advice

One of the most fulfilling aspects of this internship was the connections I made with people in the various departments! National Sawdust is a smaller non-profit, so don't be afraid to reach out and chat with any of the team members - everyone I had reached out to was more than happy to talk.
