National Peace Corps Association

Advocacy Intern

January - May 2020 • Washington, DC

What I liked

I enjoyed the opportunity to experience the day-to-day operations of a grassroots organization. I also loved the opportunity to advocate for Peace Corps on Capitol Hill. I loved working in an office environment and gaining career competencies that will help me down the line in my professional career.

What I wish was different

The COVID-19 pandemic hit during my time in Washington, thus the only thing I wish that had been different was the opportunity to experience all that DC has to offer. The East Coast shut down very quickly, given that it is an international hub and so I feel that my time was cut short.

Advice

I was hesitant to move that far away from home and I must say that I took a huge leap outside of my comfort zone. With that being said, this was the best decision I have ever made in my life and for my career. I encourage anyone considering an internship opportunity to step out of their comfort zone and figure out what truly makes you happy.
