National Information Solutions Cooperative (NISC)

Data Analyst Intern

June - August 2021 • Cedar Rapids, IA

What I liked

I liked all of the people that I worked with. I was completely remote but I still got a feel for a wide variety of work. I also enjoyed the ease into work and understanding how the company functions before I was eventually thrown in the deep end.

What I wish was different

I wish that I had got to interact with more interns and do more analytics. I did a variety of work but none of it was extremely applicable to what I think I wanted.

Advice

One piece of advice I would share is that you will certainly do tasks that aren't on the job description. I did do a decent of busy work which was frustrating but I also know that I was the first sales operations intern for NISC so they were new to the whole experience as well. Overall, NISC's culture and people are top tier. Every single employee buys into their mission and really believes in it which was super inspiring.

Events Intern

What I liked

The experience I had was very hands on, which was a great way to learn. I had a great team that I worked with who were all able to teach me and more importantly willing to teach me.

What I wish was different

Absolutely nothing

Advice

Say yes to all opportunities you can when you have an internship. You never know the connections it will lead you to.

Programming Intern

May - August 2018 • Bismarck, ND

What I liked

Friendly coworkers, wonderful learning/growing atmosphere, and fun workplace activities.

What I wish was different

More socialization between the interns outside of work. Being in a new town meant interacting with new people, but the other interns seemed to want to stick to themselves.

Advice

Ask questions and bring a desire to learn! At least for the department I was working in, there was a high learning curve to understand the system. Yet once that barrier was passed, there were so many opportunities to learn more and help with other projects.
