What I liked

All the trainers at the dolphin discovery exhibit were very kind and very knowledgeable on the dolphins.

What I wish was different

That I would have a bit more hands on experience with the dolphins.

Advice

If you are interested in learning more about animal welfare with Atlantic Bottlenose Dolphins with and understanding that there will be minimum hands on experience with the animals, then I recommend this internship.

What I liked

Being independent, behind the scenes look for animal care, learning about the newest research on animal welfare

What I wish was different

Not the most welcoming atmosphere, went mostly unacknowledged by other staff. Was very restricted in what we could do, and was confined to a small space for observations for 7 hours a day with very little stimulation/responsibility.

Advice

Make the most of it by constantly asking questions, volunteering to do more than the minimum; even see if you can earn money with ticket sales while you’re there! No stipend nor housing offered despite need to relocate

Conservation Education Intern

What I liked

I loved gaining experience in so many different types of education and trying things that I never thought I'd ever get a chance to. This internship was an amazing experience and I love that I got to make an impact even just as an unpaid intern and a rising sophomore in college. I definitely grew in my educational and communication skills but also as a person.

What I wish was different

I wish the internship was closer to where I spend the rest of my year so I could continue working at the Aquarium. I feel like I was just getting really into things when I had to leave.

Advice

There are so many opportunities to learn. Definitely don't be afraid to try things that you didn't expect to get a chance to experience. Also, apply to things that interest you. I almost didn't apply to this internship because I didn't think I would get it, and I absolutely would've regretted that decision.
