What I liked

Interning at NAMI has been a really positive and growing experience for me! I love that the organization feels like a family and made me feel so welcomed and supported. While my internship at NAMI allowed me to make an impact on people coping with mental health recovery, it also allowed me to share about my own experiences with my mental health journey.

What I wish was different

I wish that I could have been able to experience NAMI Metro Suburban without the pandemic being a factor, and I hope to do so in the near future. COVID-19 made some of my time interning at NAMI kind of quiet and slow-moving, but I am lucky to have had an in-person intern opportunity at all.

Advice

Get to know the participants at the Drop In Center! It's awesome to be able to form relationships with the people you are working with as well as the participants that come in for support.
