I love being able to help the kids have an amazing time at camp. The people there are incredible and they give their all to the campers. Everyone works together and respects each other.
What I wish was different
I wish we had more wheelchairs available for the kids.
Advice
There are many things you may be asked to do that are uncomfortable or overwhelming for you. Do not hesitate to ask for help and take care of yourself so that camp can run smoothly for everyone involved.

Camp Counselor
August 2018 • Hardwick, NJ
What I liked
I loved interacting with people from different backgrounds and helping children experience a week made especially for them. It was amazing to meet other counselors as well and forming a tight bond with them.

Advice
It is really important to check-in with yourself because the week at camp can get a bit overwhelming. It's necessary to take breaks when needed so that you are not over worked.

Special Events Intern
June - August 2019 • Wilmington, NC
What I liked
Working for MDA gave me real life experience in the non-profit industry. All of my supervisors were extremely nice and understanding and they always assured me that my work was important and meaningful. I liked knowing that everything I did actively went towards helping with their goal.
What I wish was different
The office is small and sometimes work got a little repetitive, but that is expected for a non-profit and fundraising work.
Advice
Go into it with an open mind and be willing to try anything!

Camp Counselor
June 2019 • Worcester, PA
What I liked
The program, the staff, and the campers were all terrific. It was an incredible week.
What I wish was different
It could have been a couple days longer. These kids only get the experience one week out of the year.
Advice
Expect to work. As much fun as it was it was exhausting work that didn't end until the campers left.

Development Intern
June - August 2019 • St. Petersburg, FL
What I liked
I have been extremely interested in working in non-profit for a few years now and have been lucky enough to obtain a few internships. At my previous internships I worked a lot with events and public relations. Coming into my internship with MDA I knew I wanted to see the business side and I am so grateful that I got to work with the fundraising and development team. Working directly under the development director, Heather, I was able to help plan and facilitate the summer fundraising program that grossed $153,000 and gained valuable experience for my future.
