The Mount Vernon Leadership Fellows is a highly selective six week summer institute for rising college juniors. We offer a dynamic and stimulating leadership curriculum that encourages students to examine their personal strengths and take action as a leader. In that spirit, these leadership lessons are taught within a framework highlighting the inspirational model of George Washington. We also take advantage of the Washington, DC area with special tours of American institutions and meetings with today's national leaders in government, military, industry, thought, and nonprofit, providing opportunities to learn from their journeys and counsel.
George Washington was a man of action, and Mount Vernon Leadership Fellow are afforded the chance to spend time really thinking about an issue they are passionate about on their campus or in their community, and design their own campaign in the form of a Capstone Project. Mount Vernon provides a mentor in their general area of interest who has the network and professional experience to help provide valuable feedback and guidance. Mount Vernon staff, as well as fellow cohort members from around the country, will also offer productive input. At the conclusion of the program, Leadership Fellows give a presentation on the strategy they have come up with to demonstrate how they, too, will be leaders of action.
The all-inclusive fellowship provides housing, meals, transportation and a $3000 stipend.
