Mount Hermon Association, Inc

Lead Program Assistant

June - August 2021 • Mount Hermon, CA

What I liked

I really enjoyed the atmosphere that I worked in. At Mount Hermon Family Camp, every week was identical which made it easy to get into the swing of things. The facilities were nice and the community I was surrounded in was very involved. As a lead program assistant, the job description is broad. I enjoyed that each day of the week was a different routine and I was flexible in the sense that I held many responsibilities of varying types. It was encouraging that there were other staff members whose sole responsibility was to check on the spiritual well-being of other staff members, which was really encouraging.

What I wish was different

It would have been very beneficial to have more time during the day to fellowship with others, especially within the Program department. Those I worked in direct correlation with in Programs hardly ever crossed my path throughout the day. It would have been nice to have more intentional community and spiritual development, as well as intentional leadership development. This could be partially solved by incorporating a one-one-one meeting with a full-time Program staff leader at a minimum of once per week, and completely solved by prayer.

Advice

At Mount Hermon, prepare yourself for one of the most fruitful, fulfilling, tiring, and rewarding summer of your life. Do not be afraid to share your heart and ask the leadership for help. Do not be mistaken, your great reward here is not money, or friends, nor anything on earth, your reward will be in Heaven. Do not lose that perspective.
