Android Platform Software Engineering Intern

May - August 2022 • Schaumburg, IL

What I liked

- It was hybrid so I got the opportunity to collaborate with my team members in-person and get a taste of office life - My project was very well organized into specific subtasks - I was working on an actual product, so my work wasn't just busywork - Assigned mentor who knew very well the area of expertise for the project I was working on and was always available to answer any questions I had

What I wish was different

- That my project had been an actual easy-to-demonstrate feature rather than a bunch of improvements to a product

Advice

- Ask your mentor lots of questions, but be sure to also work as independently as possible

Software Engineering Intern

May - August 2019 • Plantation, FL

What I liked

From my very first day, I worked on challenging products that the company actually used. At no point did I ever work on any sort of busy work just designed for interns. Everyone was extremely helpful and more than willing to answer my techincal questions whenever I got stuck. In addition, the mentorship program at Motorola Solutions was great, my mentor was extremely easy to talk to as well as being an absolute wealth of information.

What I wish was different

The office building itself is extremely dated, but this is really a minor complaint.

Advice

Don't be afraid to ask questions, the full time employees are extremely approachable and open to answering your techincal questions!

Inside Sales Intern

June - August 2018 • Chicago, IL

What I liked

Their Company Culture - very open to sharing all information with all employees, departments worked together, cross functional Gave interns really meaningful work

What I wish was different

I was on the phone A LOT, which was a little boring

Advice

Work hard everyday so that you stand out amongst all the other interns, that's the best way to get a return offer. Ex: they give you 4 days off, but don't take them unless you have to. Its only 10 weeks so try your hardest to show up every day.

Mechanincal Engineering Intern

May - July 2018 • Plantation, FL

What I liked

My internship this summer was a great experience! I liked working on projects that were actually important for the company (and not just "busy work"). Being in a corporate environment for the first time was eye-opening and a very beneficial experience. Additionally, I loved being in South Florida- my favorite place to live.

What I wish was different

I wish I could have had more responsibilities, but I am thankful that as the internship progressed and I became more comfortable I was able to become more involved in different projects and tasks.

Advice

Don't undervalue yourself and don't pass up amazing opportunities! I did not think I would have been qualified for an internship this summer, but the opportunity came up and I got it. Even after getting the job, I wondered if it would be better to take classes and get a summer job instead. I am so grateful that I ended up interning for the summer, and I learned so much.

What I wish was different

I would have liked some clear learning objectives at the start of my internship so I can keep track of what skills I'm learning and why I'm performing certain tasks.

Advice

Reach out to other departments to schedule a meeting or job-shadow during your free time!
