The Morven Kitchen Garden (MKG) is a one acre market garden where UVA students grow vegetables for market and learn first hand about sustainable agriculture. The garden is located 10 miles from grounds at Morven, a 2,913 acre estate, owned by the UVA Foundation.
The Morven Kitchen Garden mission is to provide student leadership opportunities in sustainable market farming, inspire community participation in local food systems, and to offer an outdoor laboratory for agricultural research. Students grow vegetables for their CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) program, local restaurants, and UVA Dining. From planting and weeding to harvesting, sales, and marketing, all garden activities involve students.
