Morris Bean & Company

Engineering Co-op

August - December 2022 • Yellow Springs, OH

What I liked

During this internship, I had to use my problem-solving skills to tackle various challenges. I spent a lot of time on the plant floor interacting with the workers to find ways to help improve production. There are many jobs that come to the company that you get to see go through the process starting with a pattern and ending with a new aluminum casting. I enjoyed being able to see my efforts have an impact on the people I work with and how they affect the final product.

What I wish was different

I personally think that I should have started communicating better at an earlier time in my internship. Most of the things I would change would involve me taking a bigger step up earlier in my co-op to take more charge of what I was working on. I would also try to come up with more innovative ways to do things in the plant that could help increase production or efficiency. Overall I do not think there would be much of this internship that I would change from the employer.

Advice

I would tell people to make sure they get out on the floor and get to know the people they are working with. This is a smaller company and I think that it is important to get to know the people whom your work affects. Having this deeper connection with your coworkers can help you take everyone's ideas into consideration. I think in a smaller company like this, communication is key and can help improve your working experience.
