I love helping take care of our seniors and making their day-to-day life more enjoyable and a little easier.
What I wish was different
It is difficult to maintain a workable number of staff, as this type of work tends to have a high turnover rate. This makes it very stressful as we are frequently understaffed.
Advice
Focus on each resident individually and remember that where you work is where they live. Make their home as welcoming and comforting as you can.

What I liked
I loved the patient contact and experience I received, as I am looking to be an Occupational Therapist one day. As I got to know the residents better, I loved my job more and more each day.
What I wish was different
Shifts can be long days on your feet, but it is worth it. Also, some days were low staffed which made it more difficult.
Advice
You have to adapt and change how you do things each day. What might be beneficial for one resident, may not be for another, and visa versa.
