What I wish was different
Housing was not provided and we were not paid much to live in Bozeman.
Advice
Be prepared to work hot and long days in high elevation and have a plan of where to live longterm.

MCC offers great connections and makes an effort to help their employees gain leadership skills and individualized skills

The schedule of this job was extremely demanding and will hopefully be amended in the future based on feedback from employees and participants.
Advice
This position takes everything you have. Be ready to be devoted, and spend your whole summer on this. It is extremely rewarding if you put in the effort.

What I liked
I liked everything about this internship. I was able see parts of the country many people don't get too. My bosses were very insightful and helpful. I enjoyed the work parts of it because I was working in the field with my hands. Rarely in the office doing paper work.
What I wish was different
I wish orientation wasn't so long and tedious. I understand why it was that way but took all the energy out of you.
Advice
Take the opportunity to get out of your comfort zone and see the country. They are very helpful and care about what they do.

What I liked
I was individually placed with the Bozeman Ranger District in the Custer-Gallatin National Forest. The team I worked with was incredible and I got to be outdoors all day.
What I wish was different
I wish my term could have been longer and I wish there had been more information about what to expect
Advice
I was in a bunkhouse with no service, so be prepared for that!

I liked the idea of performing a service to the community and not seeing my job as just a paycheck.
What I wish was different
There were times where I was not sure what I was going to be doing from one day to the next, but learning to think on my feet was valuable.
Advice
Take everything in stride, learn from your mistakes and keep on keepin' on.

You need to be flexible and roll with the punches. You're getting paid less than minimum wageand dealing with a lot of personalities.

lots of physical work, travelled to many cool places, made close friends, received an Americorps education award at the end of my service, ideal schedule

be aware that it will be hard, but the opportunities to make close friendships and see some amazing places makes it all worth it
