What I liked

If you want real, meaningful experience in design, then this is the internship for you. Interns get a ton of opportunity to work on major projects and even bring their own ideas to the table. You will also get treated like a normal worker and rarely will the job feel like just an 'internship'. So far I've been able to work on packaging, POP displays, newsletters, ecommerce/digital graphics, and more. I've also been spending any down time learning new video editing software in order to bring those skills to our team. My most recent project was making a video graphic that will be displayed in our Chicago showroom! In addition to the great experience, the people are extremely friendly and outgoing at Moen. Everyone loves what they do and you don't really get any negative vibes from anyone which makes the days enjoyable. Currently, most people work from home (my team goes in office once a week) but the communication is still really strong and it makes working remotely feel less disconnected. Teams also usually have offsite events every few months, which can be really fun! My team so far has done an escape room, volunteered at a beach clean up, and is planning on going to Top Golf for an outing soon. All these events are paid for by the company and you get your normal hourly pay for attending. And that brings me to the last thing, which is that the pay is great! You get paid by your academic year (goes by credit hours) and its a flat rate for every intern regardless of their field. This makes it one of the better paying design internships in the area. You will also get paid on holidays among other benefits!

What I wish was different

Honestly, nothing. So far the experience has been really good.

Advice

Bring new skills to the company. A lot of people I've met have been previous interns and were hired on due to bringing new ideas and skills that allowed them to make a new position for themselves. Also don't be shy! Meet everyone that you can and don't be afraid to shadow another team if you think you're more interested in their work.

What I liked

Overall great people! They offer flexibility with working remote or in-person. Summer hours allow every employee to get off early on Friday. There is also the opportunity to continue work during the academic semester, which I love. You will meet a lot of full time employees who started out as interns with Moen. As an intern, I was treated like a normal employee and handled my own jobs independently. Interns are also given their own desk and work space. You would have no idea that the interns were not full time employees unless you looked at their email signature. Pay felt great compared to other local design internships - they pay based on your academic year. Dress for your day policy made it easy and affordable on my wardrobe.

What I wish was different

Maybe more time in office and 30min paid breaks would be nice - but this is really nit-picky.

Advice

Do your best to introduce something new to the company. The more knowledge you bring, the better! A lot of previous interns essentially created their own full-time positions by doing this, and this gives you a better chance at getting hired on at the end of your internship.
