MOD Pizza

Shift Lead

February - August 2023 • Austin, TX

What I liked

I liked the pay and the opportunity to create a personal relationships with the guests as well as regulars. We also get tips on top of pay and creating those interactive experiences with guest often helped with tips!

What I wish was different

I wish they hadn’t changed their system up, because it caused a lot of confusion as well as frustration with the squad as well as the customers.

Advice

Show up with a good attitude & an open mind! And get to know the people you work with because the better the bond the better the experience will be for yourself and others!!

What I liked

I enjoyed the friends I made while working there. I also worked under very stressful circumstances due to understaffing and definitely learned a lot from the experience. The management I was under was also very organized and professional.

What I wish was different

The pay was far too low for the work I was putting in. I was also overworked due to the understaffing and often times had to stay past my required hours. I was supposed to be working around 30 hours a week and was putting in about 45 hours. Some of my coworkers would also act very unprofessional at times.

Advice

Working hard can be very rewarding but learning how to say no to management. They cannot force you to work more than expected and should not be made to feel bad for not going in.

What I liked

It was a fun group to work with, and they are pretty chill in the workspace. All the tip goes to the workers so it usually raises the hourly wage about $2.

What I wish was different

We had a lot of managers cycling through so it will be nice one they hire one that it there to stay!

I really liked a lot about this job! My coworkers were friendly, it was challenging to learn some skills but there was a really good training program, I enjoyed interacting with customers and making the food, and I got a lot of free food as well! It was rarely boring.

Food Service Worker

March 2017 - August 2019 • Hanover, PA

What I liked

I liked that there were many things for me to do instead of one single job because this kept me active and engaged. I liked that the management created a relaxed environment but never let anybody slack off.

What I wish was different

I wish that I had longer shifts in a day because I came in several days a week but only stayed 4 hours and often got sent home early.

Dishwasher

May - August 2019 • McKinney, TX

What I liked

The people, the food, the easy shifts, the pay, and the roles of dishwashing were all a plus.

What I wish was different

I wish they were more prepared with items that would speed up our cook line (ex: extra plates, extra screens, extra numbers to indicate orders, etc). I also wish that some of the employees and workers were different but that is extremely difficult to control.

Advice

Help others to help yourself.

What I liked

At Mod I really likes being around people my age. I liked that 80% of us were in school so we all had common conversations. I enjoyed the fast pace environment as well. I was an All Star which meant I was a trainer so training in the summer before I left for school was enjoyable especially since jobs are not easy at first. I encouraged people to actually keep their job because it does get easier in the end.

What I wish was different

I wish I would have taken the shift lead position earlier when offered. With school it was hard to take it since it required 35+ hours a weeks and I was a full time student.

Advice

I would say that it takes to grow ones craft. Also to not be afraid of a little trial and error.
