Being able to work outside a lot. The work team is very friendly and the job served as a great learning experience for forestry and habitat management.
What I wish was different
We had to do a lot of trail repair due to flashflooding which prevented us from doing forest inventory early in the season.
Advice
Be ready for hot and miserable conditions. I also suggest to learn how to operate large farm/construction equipment. Parts of the job required using large John Deere tractors to move rock to repair roads and trails.

I am thankful for the opportunity to be able to get outside and work along with learning about different aspects of forestry. I also liked learning how to operate an assortment of different machines and equipment.
What I wish was different
The only bummer about the job would be the heat, but other than that it was great.
Advice
Keep your mind open to trying new things and work hard because it pays off by opening many doors down the road.

What I liked
It was a great learning environment where I was able to practice professional skills in the field.
What I wish was different
I honestly had an amazing experience and would not change anything.
Advice
If you have the opportunity to intern for MDC, do it. They are great about getting their interns as much hands-on experience as possible, bring in professionals from their district to work with you, let you work independently, and pay well.
