What I liked

I enjoyed analyzing the company's data to determine how to better write SQL script for their official charts and dashboards. I learned how to use the data visualization tool Periscope Data, and in addition I also created reports and dashboards for the marketing manager using Salesforce. I reviewed lots of company data coming in from places like NetSuite (their ERP system), Salesforce, and Jira. I learned a lot about the company just by scanning through their data and documenting correct query processes. I also really enjoyed working on the marketing team! It was a great group of people to work with and I am still in touch with many of them.

What I wish was different

Every morning we had a scrum meeting that went for about an hour. I wish that instead of every morning it had been once a week, because I often felt interrupted from work and distracted in the meeting. I feel that I would've worked more effectively if I had powered through each morning without interruptions.

Advice

My advice would be to troubleshoot as much as you can, and if you are unable to fix an issue, set it aside for review later by yourself or a higher up. It can be frustrating not understanding some material, but you are there to learn! Remember that it is okay to ask questions, but you have to know when it is the right time to do so. Tackling other projects while your superior is busy shows them that you are motivated to complete the project even though you may be caught up on a task. Also, don't wait for you superior to spell out every single task for you, show initiative by moving forward in a project on your own. If you are unsure if your progress is in the right direction, stop what you are doing and consult a team member.
