Arts and Culture intern

May - August 2019 • Washington, DC

What I liked

Hands-on experience with organizing events, programs, and future shows of the gallery at the Middle East Institute. Opportunity to attend policy events at the institute and nearby. Employees treated each other like family.

What I wish was different

All good!

Advice

Your supervisor is a great resource. They genuinely want to get to know you and they care about your development during and after your internship. Don't be afraid to get to know them!

Digital Publications Intern

June - August 2018 • Washington, DC

What I liked

I was given a lot of freedom and trusted to do my best work, with easy access to my supervisor and leaders in the organization. I was able to interact with and work with other interns and departments, growing my network. There were also extremely helpful intern development events, exposing us to various institutions, opportunities, professionals, and their unique career paths.

What I wish was different

I wish it had been paid, but there was funding for transportation, which was extremely helpful.

Advice

Don’t be afraid to step outside of your comfort zone; I was nervous about moving to a city I had never been to, and start working an internship there, but it was one of the best summers of my life. Also, apply for scholarships!! I couldn’t have gone without the one I won.

Languages Intern

September 2018 • Washington, DC

What I liked

I loved the amount of responsibility I was given from the beginning.

What I wish was different

I wish that I was able to work with other interns. Often times I was left to hold down the office alone with no one else aside from myself.
