Michigan's Adventure

Games Supervisor

May - September 2019 • Muskegon, MI

What I liked

I was able to connect with the employees, management, and the guests at the park. Communication is one of the biggest aspects of the job since you see hundreds of people daily and being in games gave me the opportunity to try to 'sell' as well as interact with different groups of people. It is great for anyone who loves to talk, it good with understanding rules and guidelines, and someone who can take control and get things done.

What I wish was different

If the job could be different I would have wanted to see more employee and management interaction. While being a supervisor I was mainly in charge of creating break schedules, giving employees bathroom breaks, and getting employees any other things that they needed throughout the day. I was also the one that was called if complaints or employee-guest confrontation arose. I mostly only had an opportunity to talk to the employees when I was called over for something, this gave little room for encouragement and I did not feel as if the employees felt like they could talk to me as a friend or a respective leader. They respected me and my job, but I think if I had more of an opportunity to create team building exercises we would have been able to communicate problems better.

Advice

For anyone going to work for a big corporation that deals strictly with customer relations, I would say that always understand that making the guest or customer happy will make the day better and better. What I do not mean to say is give them whatever they want, and you will not always get a happy ending, however, understanding that your actions and your mood towards a person can make a big difference in their day and yours.
