MGM Resorts International

National Marketing Intern

May - August 2019 • Las Vegas, NV

What I liked

My advisor was one of the best mentors I have ever had. She truly cared about my personal advancement and did her best as often as she could. The company let me shadow other departments in order to grow personally and follow the company on a new level. I was also in a group with 36 other people my age spread throughout the company so it was an extremely welcoming environment.

What I wish was different

MGM Resorts International went through a very large restructuring before my program began. The program itself was rough around the edges and things were moved along pretty slowly. It was a little unorganized but that was completely understandable, all things considered.

Advice

The 10 weeks fly by. Do your best at your role and make sure to network as early on as possible. You don't realize how short this summer will be, soak in every bit of it while you can. It was the most amazing internship I could imagine. You want to leave feeling like you've made the most of it.

spa attendant

May - August 2019 • Atlantic City, NJ

What I liked

I liked the fact that I was able to meet the needs of my customers. They either came for medical reasons, to relieve stress or simply to just relax. simpling knowing that I was able to accompany them to in order for their needs to be met made me happy because I love helping people and that job was a great platform for me to do just that.

What I wish was different

I honestly wish I could have stayed there a lot longer, but I had to come back to school.

Advice

My workplace did not take everybody for granted but at the same time, they made sure they acknowledge the good works of their employees. If you do your job, arrive on time, are respectful to the customers and co-workers then your job will be easy and most of the time they will love for you to stay longer or actually offer you a permanent position, it's all about what you have to offer and how you go about it.

What I liked

I love the interaction with guests and working for a company that values their employees as much as the Beau Rivage does.

What I wish was different

I wish I were able to continue working there whilst in school.

Advice

I would advise people to take the opportunity to work in the hospitality industry as it has taught me how to interact with various types of people.

Convention Sales Intern

June - August 2018 • Las Vegas, NV

What I liked

There was so many things about this internship I enjoyed. First, the opportunity to move to a new city was very exciting to me. Being a hospitality major, Las Vegas is the mecca so I was very excited for the opportunity. I also liked how it was a structured internship program. All of the interns worked in our respective departments, but we were given the opportunity to tour different properties, do a case study, and network with senior leadership within MGM Resorts International.

What I wish was different

They recommended the interns live at UNLV, which is 2 miles from the strip, but it would've been nice to have a little help with housing, especially since the pay is so low.

Advice

Take advantage of the networking opportunities given to you. MGM has the best of the best and there is so much to learn from everyone so put yourself out there and ask questions!
