Communications Intern

May - August 2019 • Crystal City, VA

What I liked

From creating social media plans to drafting written content, attending company meetings to assisting with airport events, no two days were the same. By including me on multiple projects and introducing me to numerous opportunities, the Public Affairs team, especially my supervisor Christina Saull, ensured that I had a meaningful and worthwhile experience.

Airport Operations

May - August 2018 • Dulles, VA

What I liked

The Airport Operations team took time out of their busy schedule to explain to me what goes on throughout a typical day at an airport. I had many opportunities to attend meetings with different stakeholders, as well as having the opportunity to shadow many areas in an airport. For example, conducting runway inspections, shadowing the FAA inspectors, and reporting to any emergencies on the airfield/landside.

What I wish was different

I wish I was given projects to complete. This internship was more of a 'shadowing' internship, rather than hand-on where you complete projects type of internship.

Advice

Apply for your dream internship and work extremely hard when given an offer. This will have a long-lasting effect on your employers and the company!

Board of Directors Intern

May - August 2018 • Crystal City, VA

What I liked

The office I worked in was very engaging and let me go to Board events and spend a week at Reagan National with the Airport Manager, Ops team and construction management. I truly learned a lot about Airport management and gained a greater perspective of Board operations.

What I wish was different

There wasn't a defined capstone project or opportunity to engage in meaningful conversation with the VPs and C-suite. I ended up making up a capstone project so that I have something to define my time there.

Advice

You have to advocate for yourself and what you want out of the experience. It's really a "you get out of it what you ask for."
