Metroparks Toledo

Environmental Educational Programmer

May 2018 • Toledo, OH

What I liked

The work environment, the benefits, and the daily tasks.

What I wish was different

Nothing, the people I worked with were amazing, it didn't feel like working at all.

Advice

Take the opportunity to learn as much as you can from others and network with the people you come into contact with at public programs and amongst your coworkers.

Camp Inclusion Programmer

May - August 2018 • Toledo, OH

What I liked

I had a wonderful experience. I had all the support I needed from my boss and worked with maybe the best coworkers out there. The campers were all wonderful kids and kept each week exciting and new. There are some long days and there are hard situations, which will happen any time your working with kids, but if there is an organization to do it with, it is Metroparks.

What I wish was different

The only change I would like would love to have more information about some students beforehand. This was a challenge with collaborative organizations that brought students to camp, not on Metroparks, but I didn't receive some student documentation and diagnosis until after the fact and wasn't able to serve them effectively without said information.

Advice

Come to each day with a full water bottle and a lot of energy. Some days are paperwork and some days are out in the heat for six hours. but either way is a really rewarding and lovely time.
