I love the environment that I work with and theworKload is a perfect balance for me. It is a good start for me too because I am going into nursing so especially having a job in a hospital gives me a look into what a future job could potentially look like for me.
What I wish was different
I honestly wish I was able to work more in the school year, or there is another location in Lincoln because right now I am only working twice a month and picking up other shifts if I can too.
Advice
Have fun with your job and meet new people!

NICU Volunteer
May - August 2020 • Mansfield, TX
What I liked
What I really like I was able to be like a cuddler for the babies. While sometimes, parents couldn’t tend to their newborns, I was there to be like the “side-kick mommy”
What I wish was different
What I wish to be different is more opportunities in the program itself in other locations. I wish other hospital locations allowed this position to volunteer as a cuddler or help around anyone else in the NICU
Advice
If your looking to go into the NICU or pediatric route. This is a good start, will teach you a lot and experience things that you will possibly remember in your actual nursing job.

Medical Scribe
May 2018 • Gary, IN
What I liked
I really enjoyed being able to experience everything in person rather than trying to learn it through a textbook. I am a visual learner, so this job allows me to comprehend medicine and sciences more efficiently. I also am able to learn medical terminology and be more efficient with diagnostics.
What I wish was different
Nothing, I really enjoy my job. I feel it is a good starting point in my career and will allow me to accelerate in the future.
Advice
One piece of advice would be to always stay on top of your work and understanding medical terminology. It is a teaching hospital and all the doctors want you to learn, but it makes it easier to learn if you have the basic knowledge of what is going on.

Nursing Assistant
May - August 2018 • St. Louis Park, MN
What I liked
I really enjoyed the work enviornment. The nurses were very helpful if especially since they could see that I was willing to work and be present at my job. I would always get very kind words of affirmation from co-workers.
What I wish was different
It can be very challenging when I am the only nursing assistant staffed down a hallway of 10 patients. It made me have to really plan out my schedule and prioritize. But, at times when there were patients who did not use the call light as much I felt as thought I was not giving them as much attention.
Advice
Being a nursing assistant is an excellent job to start in a healthcare setting and to build great connections. Come willing to work and be ok with asking for help if you need it, other staff will be kindly coming your way! :-)
