Bus Driver

May 2016 • Mesa, AZ

What I liked

I am a relief driver, so everyday is a different route with different faces. My range of students that I get to drive range from regular ed., special needs, and juvenile's. This job allows me to see the diversity in these younger students and makes me really appreciative of my own life. I love being able to relate with individual students and letting them know that, despite the cards that are dealt to us, we have to play the best hand in which were given.

What I wish was different

I wish the school system wasn't so political. Everything you do, bad or good, has loop holes and contingencies that makes it working there feel like your walking on egg-shells. Part of it is simply because of the liability that comes when dealing with kids.

Advice

I would share that the ability to communicate and see from the other person's perspective is key to diffusing or appreciating another person's experience/outcome. Learning to react with knowledge and patience vs. simply emotional. This will serve you far greater then any teacher or book will ever teach you.
