I don't wish for anything to have been different, I genuinely enjoyed it.

Make sure you understand the procedures before you start working and do not be afraid to ask questions.

Employer Engagement Intern

What I liked

I loved having another opportunity to work with the O'Brien Center for Career Development. I got to work on some new fun projects including; the Internship/Job Highlights every week, and a diversity research project. I also gained skills in Excel/Google Sheets and a new program called Airtable.

What I wish was different

Nothing!

Advice

The O'Brien Center is such a fun place to work. It is a very inclusive environment (even remotely)! If you get a chance to work for the O'Brien Center during your time at Merrimack College, I highly recommend it! You will meet so many amazing people!

I loved being able to plan and facilitate a program to help new students feel comfortable when they arrive to campus.

What I wish was different

I can't think of anything that I wish to have been different! It was an all-around positive experience.

One piece of advice about this experience I would give someone applying for this position is to just be open minded and leave your expectations at the door.

I loved being a part of a team that planned and executed international student Fall orientation and pre-arrival sessions. Mentoring international students throughout their first semester is also an incredibly rewarding experience that teaches you so much.

What I liked

It was an opportunity that allowed me to gain research in my field that I was not used to. Helped me realize what type of research I wanted to do in the future! Great opportunity for experience! I liked that it was a group rather than individual research.

What I wish was different

The research we conducted was environmental-based. I wish the location was better picked and we did side research based on group interests!

Advice

Do different research within your field, even if it is out of your comfort zone! It will help you understand the type of research you like/don't like and allow you to gain experience within your field of study! It was a great opportunity for learning and growth!
