Meritor

Indirect Purchasing Co-op

June 2019 • Troy, MI

What I liked

Great experience working in a real business and has prepared me more for college than any class has.

What I wish was different

I wish I could have had a manager that was more involved with working with the co-ops.

Advice

Understanding how a business or a certain team or department functions can help tremendously in learning and picking up new skills.

Electrical Engineering Intern

July 2019 • Plainfield, IN

What I liked

A huge variety of different opportunities, many different directions to take projects and a great deal of autonomy provided.

What I wish was different

Location is remote, and it is a production facility, so workspaces are perpetually noisy and filthy. Not necessarily bad, but things I wasn't prepared for.

Advice

Be prepared to work with many different types of people in a very dynamic environment.

Business Analytics co-op

May - October 2019 • Florence, KY

What I liked

I was given projects that had a large impact across the organization. I worked on multiple cross-functional teams to be a voice of truth on specific data requests. Through my experience, I learned a lot about the interactions between sales and product managers.

What I wish was different

A more structured intern development program.

Advice

Make sure you get to know all levels of management.

Information Systems Co-op

November 2018 • Troy, MI

What I liked

I love this company. I am not treated like a co-op- I am an employee! I work on critical task, and learn new things everyday. I feel like a major part of the team, and know that my time is valued.

What I wish was different

Advice

Please co-op. In college this should be required! If you don’t like somewhere you are interning/co-oping, go somewhere else and make sure you get yourself known. I only hope to go full-time here, and having been a co-op I am well prepared for a full time position, where if I had not co-oped I would be so intimidated coming into the work world now knowing all that is required.

Supply Chain Intern

August 2018 - January 2019 • Florence, KY

What I liked

More like what did I love. I loved my Supply Chain team. The most supportive group I've been apart of. Coming into work was the best feeling. Everyone is easy to talk to. You get great exposure to issues that are going on company wide. I was able to join meetings I likely wouldn't have been able to be apart of anywhere else, and I gained invaluable knowledge from my manager. Just overall, great people and great experience.

What I wish was different

I wish there were more opportunities to be around fellow co-ops. There are quite a lot throughout the office itself and in different locations.

Advice

Talk to as many people as you can around the office. Building your connections and having people know your face and name can come in handy.

Logistics Co-Op

May - August 2017 • Troy, MI

What I liked

I loved the company. It was a big company with a tight-nit feel. The people you work with are great and you are always busy.

What I wish was different

Not so busy. Some internships have a lot of downtime. This one had none. Very Very busy

Advice

Slow things down in your head and actually think about what you are doing. This will make the stressful times easy.
