Volunteer

January 2020 • Iowa City, IA

What I liked

I liked the ability to choose which department to volunteer and further work on skills such as communication, diligence, time management, etc..

What I wish was different

I wish there were more opportunities to shadow some of the healthcare providers when dealing with patients.

Advice

I would advise individuals to explore their options with the various departments to volunteer to see where they believe they will benefit the department the most. I would advise them to not feel like they are unable to look at a different position once they are assigned to a role as a volunteer but to communicate with the Volunteer Service Manager and possibly change positions!
