Game Day Intern

May - August 2022 • Memphis, TN

What I liked

I enjoyed working with people my age from all around the country. Getting to know and grow connections with all sorts of backgrounds was a fun experience for me. I liked getting the one on one instruction from professionals in my field. Getting to work in multiple areas and apartments in the stadium was eye opening and a way for me to familiarize myself with other aspects of the sports industry.

What I wish was different

I wish the communication were different. Employees should be treated with respect, and frankly we didn't get that at AZP. The job description only covered 50% of what we would be doing on a daily basis, and the management openly admitted they did that on purpose. Interns were taken advantage of, by the means of work ethic and time. No one under the age of 22 should be working 90 hours a week for 8 dollars an hour. I wish that supervisors and department managers would take ideas in serious consideration instead of blowing us off, especially when your organization is a failing one and could use the fresh ideas.

Advice

The sports industry is ruthless. It's not all roses and tulips however it does have some satisfying moments. I learned to keep a smile on, and your head down. Work ethic does not go a long way, but if that means the job will be done, then so be it.
